Christy’s Take of the ARTS Awards

Let me tell you, there is nothing like seeing yourself on a Jumbotron as you attempt to walk to a stage to accept an award! Especially, knowing you are totally ill-prepared for this win.

Go back 3 years, when we were first nominated for an ARTS Award, which is the equivalent of an Oscar in the home furnishing industry. Did not win, but so excited to be nominated.  Last year, up for it again with another loss.  This year, third time, and do not want to jinx anything by preparing too much, plus figure, what are our chances?

We are at the Dallas Market all day buying for the store until about 4 when son Nick drives from Ft Worth to meet us.  Event starts at 6, so we arrive back at hotel at 5:59 to get dressed, first mistake.

Second mistake, bought a new hair styling tool that day and a new mascara….really? Needed more then that!

Wore same dress wore first year nominated, third mistake.

Problem with little toe, so bad footwear……but really, who is going to see us, so it won’t matter, fourth mistake.

5th mistake, I honestly did not prepare any sort of acceptance because in the OFF CHANCE, by some miracle, we would win, Caitlin said she would give the speech.

DRY JANUARY!  6th mistake!   May have been more creative with a glass of champagne in me!

Moment of truth and our name is announced! Caitlin makes me go with her, that LONG walk to the stage, with the cute guy helping you up the stairs to the stage. Shaking hands and accepting the award with Amber Lewis and Adam Glassman, Designer royalty!  And then…….FREEZE!  7th big mistake! After Caitlin makes her “speech” I yank the microphones toward me and start blabbering.  HORRIBLE!

What can we say? That we would love to have a re-do on those few hours, yes! That we should have bought new clothes and had someone try and do something with our hair and faces, yes!  That we would have given the speeches that we wrote AFTER the event-(nailed it!),  yes!

But in the end, we are so grateful, humbled, and honored, and winning this award has totally inspired us to be better, so look out Denver, there’s a recharged team from lulu’s in town!
